Chinese New Year Flower Market Fair + Mini Procession – Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 and Sunday, February 3rd, 2019
The Flower Market Fair in Chinatown is where you can buy fresh flowers, fruits, candies and brand new supplies for the home to begin the New Lunar Year on February 5th. The day opens with a mini procession along Grant Avenue - a historic parade route until the mid-70s. There will be performances of traditional Chinese magicians, acrobats, folk dancers and opera as you take in the beautiful fragrances of spring. There will be over 120 booths.
Flower Market Fair opens Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-4PM. Mini Procession marches Saturday morning around 10AM.

A Talk by Prof. Jessica Trounstine with commentary by author/activist Randy Shaw – Tuesday February 5th, 2019
District Nine Neighbors for Housing presents a talk by Professor Jessica Trounstine, author of: Segregation by Design: Local Politics and Inequality in American Cities (Cambridge University Press, 2018). Prof. Trounstine is UC-Merced Professor of Political Science. After her talk, Randy Shaw, executive director of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic and author of Generation Priced Out: Who Gets to Live in the New Urban America (University of California Press, 2018,) will offer commentary and lead a discussion with the audience. Copies of both books will be available for purchase at the event signed by the authors. Light refreshments will be served.
