Ron Newt, local businessman and music industry entrepreneur, passed away last week at the age of 69.
Members of Newt’s family confirmed that Newt passed away at his home on Taraval Street in the Outer Sunset on Monday, March 11th. At this time, the cause of death is unknown.
Newt self-published multiple memoirs about his life in the criminal underworld, rising to become a major drug kingpin who rubbed shoulders with pop stars and politicians. In the late 80s, Newt came clean and abandoned his life of crime to manage his sons’ budding musical group, the Newtrons. The Newtrons toured the country and released several albums before disbanding in the late 1990s.
At the time of his death, Newt was working to secure permits for a cannabis dispensary, Happy Herbs, in the Outer Sunset. The Beacon profiled his efforts last year. He is survived by two sons, Johnny and Bobby.
